How to Participate
If you think Chatt*lab's mission is worth supporting, please consider one or more of the following alternatives as a way you can contribute to our cause.
Become a Member
We are always looking for makers that are eager to learn, teach, make, inspire and improve our space. This has two costs - membership dues (cheaper than a round of golf per month!) and some of your time. We want members that help participate in our space.
Come to our Open Meetings and events
We have open meetings each Tuesday. Check our meetup page for more info. Guests are welcome to come and see what we're all about. You don't have to be a member to participate. Don't worry, we aren't a gym, we won't be giving you a sales pitch on joining, we want members that really want to be a part of what we do, which works out to be a very low pressure environment for people checking us out.
Follow us on Facebook
Our Facebook page is updated fairly regularly with events, space updates, project updates and reposts of other posts that we like or recommend. It's a great way to find out what we're up to.

Shop at Amazon
This is one of the simplest and easiest ways you can make a difference. All you have to do is name Chatt*lab Makerspace your charity of choice with your Amazon.com account and then shop at smile.amazon.com. Doing so will give our charity half of one percent of each of your purchases, and it doesn't cost you any more money. You can do it in 3 simple steps:
- Go to https://smile.amazon.com and sign-in
- select CHATTLAB MAKERSPACE as your charity (or click this shortcut link to do so: Set Chattlab as my charity )
- If you use google Chrome, install the smile always extension here: Smile
- If you use Safari, install the smilematic extension here: https://couponfollow.com/smilematic (thanks to Marilyn for this tip!)
The “trick” to all of this is that you have to shop at “smile.amazon.com” instead of the normal “www.amazon.com”. It's the same site, just different way of getting there. The smile-always extension (step #3) redirects you to the smile portion of the site each time go go to amazon.com.

Make a donation of equipment or supplies
We're always open to consider donations of used equipment or supplies that would normally go into the recycle bin. Please consult us before donating items, as there may be things that we have too much of or can't use. Supplies (wood, nuts, bolts, resistors, wire) are generally more valuable to us as they are more versatile with regards to building stuff.
Items we don't take are CRTs, low level nuclear waste and chemicals. For items of value greater than $500, we will provide you with a tax deductible receipt. As a 501(c)(3) we are a charity and you can write off donations of equipment, supplies or money.
Get on our Email Distribution List
You can join our email list to get information as well as to ask questions. Anyone can join, but we manually approve each applicant to eliminate any bot related or spammers for all of our sakes. You can join the list by sending an email to chattlab+subscribe@chattlab.org . Once a member, you'll get notifications and can ask the group questions by sending emails to chattlab@chattlab.org.
NOTE, we no longer support the older google group chattlab-list as we do not have administrative control of it.
Make a direct cash donation
Direct funds are always welcome. Our members commit to us financially to support our mission, but money always seems to run short when it comes to repairing tools, consumables or stocking up for a workshop. Everyone that is involved with Chatt*lab does so on a volunteer basis. No financial or material compensation is given to any member. We do pay workshop instructors sometimes, on an as needed basis. Most of our tools actually belong to members who are sharing them with the group. Our goal is eventually for the club to own all of it's own tools.
As a 501(c)(3) we are a charity and you can write off donations of equipment, supplies or money. Any donations over $250 will require us to send you a receipt for your tax records.
To send us a donation, you can paypal it to payments@chattlab.org. If you do send a donation, please include your address so we can send you a thank you note and record it in our records for auditing purposes (if you claim the donation on your taxes, we'll have a record if the IRS attempts to validate).
