Network Administrator

Role Overview (TLDR)

The Network and Systems Administrator plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the makerspace’s network infrastructure, security camera systems, and servers. This position ensures the seamless operation of our network environment, upholds network security, and supports the overall efficiency of makerspace computer related functions. The role is responsible for the technical oversight and maintenance necessary to support and secure our network and system operations. The position reports to the board of directors.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Network Infrastructure Management
    • designs, configures, and maintains the company’s network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
    • They monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues to ensure optimal performance and availability.
    • They implement and manage network policies and procedures to maintain reliable connectivity and security.
  2. Server Administration
    • installs, configures, and maintains servers, including file servers, application servers, and domain controllers.
    • They monitor server performance of approved servers, conduct regular backups, and ensure data integrity and availability.
    • They apply updates, patches, and upgrades to server operating systems and software.
  3. Security Camera System Management
    • Oversees the configuration of the Reolink camera system.
    • Controls who has access to playback of recordings.
    • Monitors the feeds and addresses any technical issues.
  4. Network Security
    • implements and enforces network security measures to protect company data and resources.
    • They manage firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security tools.
    • They conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans and respond to security incidents and breaches.
  5. Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintains documentation of network configurations, server setups and security policies.
    • Maintains the admin password for every computer on the network.

This role gets the contributor/legacy rate for their service. No financial compensation is permitted.
